The Sweet Briar Promise outlines our distinctive approach for providing meaningful, enduring education for women. It includes:

Chaplain Adam White

Adam WhitePrior to coming to Sweet Briar in the fall of 2006, the Rev. Adam White served as pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Amherst and later as pastor of Charlottesville's Mount Moriah United Methodist Church.

A native of northwestern New Jersey, White earned a Master of Arts in religion (concentration in Hebrew Bible) from Eastern Mennonite Seminary in 2004 and Master of Divinity from Drew University Theological School in 1998.

He also was awarded a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Mennonite University in 1995.

White and his wife, Angela, and daughter, Hannah, reside on campus.

Rockin' Reverend

When he's not working with students, White dons a do-rag, tunes up his electric guitar and plays with his band, FaSt. Short for "faculty/staff," FaSt formed in the winter of 2007 and includes Sweet Briar community members Mark Magruder, Rob Granger, Tom Marcais and Steve Wassell.

Adam WhiteWhite and FaSt debuted at the 2007 faculty show — a night of general hilarity meant to spoof students and popular culture for the amusement of the entire campus community.

Soon after, the band was asked to open at a student-organized "battle of the bands" fund-raiser. Since then, FaSt has played numerous concerts on and off campus, and has appeared on WSET's "Living in the Heart of Virginia."

The band plays a popular mix of rock, blues, folk and country music, including such diverse covers as "Dear Prudence" by The Beatles, Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" and Woody Guthrie's "Nine Hundred Miles."
